With the Riptide Rumble coming up soon, we thought it would be good to speak to not just a participant in the inaugural event, but one of the pioneering women of wrestling as a whole - Rhia O'Reilly.
Rhia has a wealth of experience competing in the UK and North America for promotions such as Shimmer, EVE, Progress, IPW:UK, XWA and recently of course Riptide! We hope you enjoy finding out a little more about her in this interview.RWF: As one of the mainstays of the British Wrestling scene over the past few years many people will be familiar with your work, but how would you describe yourself and your style to someone new to the world of wrestling?
I’m a brawler at heart but with the technical skills to back it up. Less strong style, more smashy smashy.
RWF: What made you decide to become a wrestler, and what was the first step you took on that path?
Seeing Trish Stratus get put through a table. First time I really got emotionally invested in a woman in wrestling. I actually came over to England as a teenager and did a training camp with FWA (Frontier Wrestling Alliance), but the real first step was trekking to Canada to train with Lance Storm!
RWF: You are of course scheduled to appear in the upcoming inaugural Riptide Rumble down here on the South Coast. Is there anything in particular that you look forward to about appearing in Riptide or performing in front of the Brighton crowd?
The crowd has such a good atmosphere, backstage has a good energy and it’s run by good people. What more could you want?
RWF: If you could give one piece of advice - whether it be to aspiring wrestlers, people in the industry already, or even the fans – what would you say?
Whether you’re performing or watching, you signed up to be a part of the crazy world of wrestling. As cliche as it is, wrestling is like a rollercoaster full of ups and downs. Don’t get caught up in the little things - enjoy the experience!
