RIPTIDE RAMBLINGS

  • Chakara apparently inhaled some gold-dust at the end of her match. We wish her a speedy recovery - come back and knock some caps off our heads soon!
  • Sierra Loxton looked impressive on her debut, would like to see her back at some point.
  • Maverick was essentially put in an impossible situation against not just Spike but his crew Money vs Everybody. Is it on him - should he have brought back-up? Or is there something going on behind the scenes with Spike & Riptide that we don't know about?
  • Spike wants in to the Brighton Championship tournament, that much we know, but what is his leverage? We shall see I guess.
  • Lots of pop for Sexsmith and Andrews - face versus face can work and did work, but when Jack went to get a chair the lines started to blur. It's a fine line Jack is walking at the moment, if he continues to look frustrated and at odds with the fans trying to help and support him - he could end up alienating them.
  • Andrews was absolutely a welcome debut. You can just tell you're watching someone approaching the top of their game. We may not see him much at Riptide, but when we can - we should!
  • I sensed all the Progress SSS16 competitors were avoiding any big bumps so that they didn't suffer unnecessary injuries going in to such an important tournament - however they are all professionals, and I personally felt it didn't detract one iota from their matches.
  • I might be a mark, but I thought Danny Jones had a great debut, he's got the size, the moves, and the attitude to go places in my opinion. Another debutante I'd welcome back in a heartbeat.
  • TK Cooper is another guy who, whilst already being pretty well-regarded, has potential to go a long long way. He has a heel-ish charm that often makes you dislike him initially, but when he wins - you're kind of okay with it. Multi-talented wrestler too.
  • AFP are gonna hate this, but the most 'fun' match of the night was the four corners tag.
  • Amir Jordan seemed to be over with the crowd from the get go with his unique entrance, and he backed it up with some solid wrestling too. He and Kip (face turn?) make a fun tag team to be honest - I would like to see them down here again for sure.
  • I'm not sure I had heard a true 'wall of sound' until I heard Gibson getting booed live in person. Second time at Riptide, same reaction.
  • You have to have a ton of respect for GYV, although they had the highest standing going into the match, they weren't afraid to let the other teams get all their own spots in against them. I'll still boo them and call them names - but I know they're damn good workers and I salute them for that.
  • Walter absolutely brutalised Boar for pretty much the entirety of this bout. However, it solidified (if anyone was in any doubt) Walter as an absolute beast, and Boar as a gutsy motherf***er who will try his absolute heart out - whatever the odds. Was it a classic, no, but I think it achieved the desired effect.
  • I believe (though I may have misunderstood) that victory qualifies Walter for the Brighton Championship tournament now. I welcome the news, but I pray he doesn't draw Candy in the first round.
  • Mambo was great as per usual. I actually think he might be the biggest face in Riptide right now. Not sure if he's qualified for the Championship tourney yet, but he'd be my tip to go far.
  • Are we seeing signs of discontent in the Grey & Chapman partnership. To hell if they live near each other, maybe they can't physically be near each other any more. Is their working relationship over?
  • Jimmy versus Jinny was an all out war. Jimmy was his usual self, but we saw some heel traits resurface within Jinny towards the end as she attacked and berated the officials.
  • It remains to be seen if this feud is done, and where they go from here - but Jimmy's savage attack on Jinny after the match demands some sort of retaliation/retribution you'd think.
  • Whoever is in charge of the tables at Riptide - needs to buy cheaper, or at the very least thinner, ones.
That's all for this edition of the Riptide Recap, hopefully it has been of use, vaguely enjoyable, and created a few talking/thinking points.

If you haven't already, do check out our interview with Danny Jones that we published last week.
