BLACK WATER RECAP (OF SORTS) & WINTER SABBATICAL

Image
Photo via Rob Brazier/Head Drop Hey everyone, Just a brief post in regards to the ongoing situation with the blog. I won't often talk about myself, because this site is about Riptide and rightfully so, but on this occasion I think it's best to mention a few things up front. Long story short (the full message is on Twitter @RiptideWresFans) - I have taken on some additional responsibilities in my personal life, which means that my time is at a real premium right now. At present we do not know when the next Riptide show is, although we are almost certain it won't be until March/April 2019. So with the promotion hibernating over the winter, it makes sense I take a sabbatical too so that I can work on other projects. A couple of things to clarify: We will still be active on Twitter so feel free to follow along and stay updated with Riptide content as you have done before - nothing should change there. If there are any fan/meet-up events, whether they be official or ...

RWF SPOTLIGHT: HIT THE BREAKS

Image
Photo via Rob Brazier/Head Drop Every now and again there comes an opportunity to get in on the ground floor of something. It might be a band you like who go from supporting other artists in dingy clubs and go on to sell out arenas, or it might be a stand-up comedian who goes from performing in local pubs to being on TV every week. Well I'm telling you right now, get all in on Jordon Breaks, so that one day you can say that you saw him live at Riptide. Although relatively young, both in age and within the business, Jordon has already drawn rave reviews for his technical prowess from fans and most importantly, fellow wrestlers. One (incredibly gifted) writer even made an ambitious, yet not unrealistic, comparison to a young Zak Sabre Jr. He's from Brighton too, so not only is he talented - he's also local lad!   No doubt Jordan has the ability, the grounding, and the mindset to go far - and I have a feeling the character and ring-presence will only continue to grow as...

RWF SPOTLIGHT: NOW WE PLAY!

Image
Photo by Rob Brazier @ Head Drop One of the best things about Riptide is their willingness to provide a platform for the younger generation of the wrestlers to hone their skills and build their reputation.  Someone who undoubtedly has the potential to go far both in Riptide and other promotions is The O.J.M.O.  Over the Brighton Championship tournament weekend we saw just how good The O.J.M.O. can be, as he qualified for the tournament proper with a pre-show victory over Sid Scala, Mauro Chaves and Jordan Breaks in a back-and-forth four-way battle.  Unfortunately, his run ended there as Spike Trivet (the scoundrel) capitalised on the fact The O.J.M.O. had just competed in a truly grueling bout - by calling him out immediately and snatching the victory.  Despite the defeat, the manner of how it unfolded and the heart The O.J.M.O. showed, left many wondering if the result may have been different had the playing field been level.  We caught up wi...

RWF SPOTLIGHT: FADE TO GREY

Image
Photo via Rob Brazier/Head Drop If you are a regular at Riptide you will be more than familiar with the subject of this edition of the RWF Spotlight - Lord Gideon Grey. In fact you might actually prefer to see less of him, but that's just proves the point that he has infiltrated your consciousness - like it or not. The fact of the matter is that Grey and his, let's say 'comrade', Kurtis Chapman have done such a magnificent job of interjecting themselves into the action - that loathe them as we do, a Riptide without them would almost seem incomplete. That in itself is some twisted genius, some evil ingenuity, some dastardly inspiration - and the majority of that comes from the mind of Lord Gideon Grey: RWF: As a staple of British Wrestling scene many people will be familiar with your work, but how would you describe yourself and your style to someone new to the world of wrestling? That entirely depends on how I feel about my opponent. If they bore me, like so m...

RIPTIDE RECAP: BRIGHTON CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT

Image
Well that was one hell of a weekend huh!  Riptide put on an incredible three nights of intense, action-packed, emotional, edge-of-the-seat wrestling, and we got to see the very first Brighton Champion crowned! SPOILER ALERT - if you are avoiding the results of the Riptide Brighton Championship Tournament for any reason - do not read on! I'll be revealing the outcome of every match and a few comments about each specific night, followed at the end by a more general collection of thoughts on the weekend overall.  I'll hold back on some of the details so that when you watch it on Riptide On Demand ( https://bit.ly/2KvkrAj ) - you'll at least get some surprises! * * * * * BCT NIGHT 1 MATCH 1: Jordon Breaks vs OJMO vs Mauro Chaves vs Sid Scala - BCT Qualifier RESULT: OJMO wins via Submission MATCH 2: Spike Trivet vs OJMO - BCT Tournament Match (R16) RESULT: Trivet wins via Pinfall MATCH 3: Candy Floss vs Cara Noir  -  BCT Tournament Match ...

RWF SPOTLIGHT: CANDY LAND

Image
Photo via Rob Brazier / Head Drop What better to get us in the mood for the Brighton Championship Tournament than a nice sugary treat, and an interview with an entrant? So we thought - why do them separately when Candy Floss combines the two so incredibly well! Almost a year to the night she made her Riptide debut, Candy will compete for the opportunity to become the inaugural Brighton Champion. In that time she has made herself a firm fan-favourite down here on the South Coast, to the point where a Riptide show without her just doesn't feel quite the same. We chatted to Miss Floss to get the low-down on how she stays so sweet outside the ring, but can be so kick-ass once she's inside! Hope you all enjoy... * * * * * RWF: As one of the fastest-rising stars of the British Wrestling scene many people will be familiar with your work, but how would you describe yourself and your style to someone new to the world of Wrestling? My Wrestling character is called Candy Fl...
