From a kernel of an idea in early 2017, Josh began to develop the ethos behind Riptide, drawing initially on his experience in the music industry as well as wrestling shows he had been to as a fan. With some assistance from his team, plus an absolute ton of hard work and dedication, Josh was able to create and produce the first ever Riptide show - and I think we all know what has happened since!
One of the most admirable things about Josh is he truly cares about everyone involved in Riptide, from the wrestlers, to the crew, to the fans. He never stops striving for excellence and that shows in the ring and on the screen in the beautifully shot on-demand content.
Let's hear what he has to say for himself shall we!
RWF: Riptide has firmly established itself on the British Wrestling landscape after a successful year of incredible in-ring action backed up by some of the best people in the business, both on the mat and behind the scenes. However, if you had to describe Riptide to someone completely new to the big wide world of wrestling – what would you say?
I would say to them there is nothing I could tell them about what a great time they'd have that they will actually believe. You've just gotta come down and see it for yourself!
RWF: Were there any challenges geographically or logistically that you had to overcome once you decided Riptide would be based in Brighton - specifically at the Brighthelm Centre?
I mean the fact that there hasn't been any independent wrestling in Brighton and Hove for 10 years demonstrates that there certainly are issues with putting on wrestling in Brighton. Mainly a shortage of venues that are a) the right size/shape, b) don't look like a bag of shit, c) affordable, and d) actually willing to have wrestling on. The Brighthelm are fantastic to work with, but let me tell you - other promotions would (and do) choose to run in a different town presented with their hire fee.
RWF: Is there a particular person or group of people that you feel like Riptide has given a platform to in order for them to develop and improve beyond where they were maybe six months to a year ago?
That's a question for them. I will say, however that those on the roster who are in the early stages of their careers constantly astound me with their development at RIPTIDE and elsewhere.
RWF: What are your ambitions and goals for Riptide going forward, whether it be in the near or distant future?
We wanna still be here, and we wanna keep getting better. Bigger? - not a huge priority. We're operating at full capacity to deliver the shows as they are and really are working towards financial security before we even consider any manner of expansion.
